Film Categories and Requirements
Feature Film Entry Requirements:
Films must be feature-length narratives, 70 minutes or longer (recommended length) and open to anyone who wishes to enter.
Documentary Film Requirements:
Films must be Documentaries, either feature length or short. 30 minutes or longer and open to anyone who wishes to enter and open to anyone who wishes to enter.
Short Film Entry Requirements:
Films must be short narratives of 39 minutes or less (recommended length) and open to anyone who wishes to enter.
Student Short Film Entry Requirements:
Films must be short narratives of 15 minutes or less (recommended length) and open only to students (must include proof of enrollment from high school, university or college). Adult supervision must be limited to an advisory capacity.
Each film must be an original work produced and directed by the submitter of this film. Filmmaker should be an African-American and/or feature African-American in a
key position behind the camera, or in front of the camera.
Submitted films are open to any genre including: action, adventure, alternative, anime, art, avant-garde, B-movie, biography, blaxploitation, children animation, children live action, comedy, coming of age, crime, cult, culture, dance, deconstruction, docu-drama, drama, dramedy, educational, environmental, erotic, family, fantasy, flash, health/medical, hip hop, history, horror, human rights, independent, magical realism, microcinema, mockumentary, music, musical, mystery, nature, neo-noir, news, PXL, period/historical, personal narrative, post modern, reality, rejected, religious, road trip, romance, romantic comedy, satire, sci-fi, sci-fi action, science, silent film, social issue, spiritual, spoof, sport, supernatural, surreal, thriller, transgender, underground, urban, war, western, or wildlife.
Film category project can match form such as: ad spot, animation, documentary, experimental, feature, industrial, multimedia, music video, narrative fiction, short, television, or trailer.
