Third Annual Bronzeville Cultural Festival Set for June 18-21
CHICAGO – (May 28, 2009) – Third World Press Foundation is pleased to announce that the Bronzeville Cultural Festival is set to return for its third successful year. The Bronzeville Cultural Festival, June 18-21, 2009, will feature the popular Bronzeville Film Festival, along with the Bronzeville Book Fair.
The Bronzeville Cultural Festival is set to kick off on Thursday, June 18 with a gala evening at Harold Washington Cultural Center at 4701 S. King Dr. Chicago. Free workshops and screenings will follow on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20 at the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, 700 E. Oakwood Boulevard, and at Harold Washington Cultural Center. Also, a two-day boot camp for actors will be held Thursday, June 18 and Friday, June 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Chicago Military Academy at Bronzeville, 3519 South Giles Ave. Cost for the boot camp is $20 per day.
The film festival will feature the work of acclaimed actor/director Bill Duke, who has been invited at this year’s special guest. Previous guests have included Tim and Daphne Reid, Harry Lennix, Lynn Whitfield and Avery Brooks.
The Bronzeville Book Fair will feature readings and signings by several well-known writers, book exhibitions, and workshops on writing and publishing. The Book Fair will be held at the Carruthers Center. Special guests will include university professors, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn who authored the book, Race Course: Against White Supremacy, and State Senator Rickey Hendon, a colleague of President Barack Obama, who has written an analysis of Obama, Black Enough White Enough.
The Bronzeville Cultural Festival is hosted by Third World Press Foundation as an event to honor Bronzeville’s cultural heritage and to further affirm the outstanding African American contribution to Chicago’s rich artistic and literary foundation. BCF is comprised of the Bronzeville Film Festival and Bronzeville Book Fair.
